The girl’s basketball team started the season off on the right foot with a dominating performance against Andover Central at Home last Friday night, Dec. 2. Sophomore point guard Emily Wood led the team in scoring with 23 points while Sophomore Shaelyn Martin drew much of the attention from the lady Jaguar defense.

Girls’ Basketball Preview: Back in action

Last night’s basketball scrimmage was one of the last chances the girl’s basketball team will have to prepare for a season filled with high expectations. The Lady Stangs open the season with Andover Central at the “Brick House” on Friday at 6:00 p.m.

After loss, season terminated but not forgotten

After going 17-1 the soccer teams hopes at a state championship fell short as they lose 4-3 to Liberal in overtime on Tuesday night. With the loss the soccer team’s season is over, however, it will not be forgotten. The teams 17 wins is the second most in school history. Only four teams now remain in the 5A boys soccer state tournament.

Football highlights: South vs. Central

The South Central game brought a lot of things. It brought excitement. It brought sorrow. It brought heartache, but more than anything it brought the people of Salina together, whether they were watching it on t.v. or live at Salina Stadium, for a few of hours Salinans experienced a phenomenal game. With the football team’s last minute loss they move to 5-2 and face Great Bend in what could be a “win or go home” game in district play.


Football highlights: Heading into district play

It’s that time of the year again, district play is now upon us. Luckily, the football team carries a head of steam into this Friday night’s game vs. South. After destroying Newton last week 49-20 the Mustangs will have a good chance of making the playoffs once again with a victory over the Cougars. Regardless, it always seems to be a night many remember as the game of the year.

The volleyball team visited McPherson as they competed in their last tournament of the regular season. They added three more wins to their record, improving to 23-12 overall.


Soccer Highlights: Continuing their winning ways

After defeating Newton on Tuesday the soccer team dominated Andover at Salina Stadium on Thursday. This victory brings the Mustangs to 12-1 which matches the best record since 2007. The Mustangs next match is Tuesday against Ark City marking the last regular season home game and senior night.


Volleyball highlights: Destroying the competition

On Thursday the volleyball team took on South. The matches were played in South High’s main gymnasium and the Lady Stangs came away with a crushing victory. After deafeating South the Lady Stangs up their win total to 20, marking the first time since 2001 the volleyball team has reached that mark.

Central’s new football schedule will include Hutch as the season opener and will replace Campus with St. Thomas Aquinas in the 2012 season. Four out of their last five games will be played at Salina Central’s stadium next year.

Football highlights: Bringing back the excitement

After a disappointing loss to the Hutch Salthawks doubt may have been brought into the minds of Mustang fans about how good their football team really is but, just like that the Mustangs beat a Maize team who in the mind of many are better than their record shows. Leaving doubters in the dust and post-season wishing Mustang fans to keep dreaming sweet dreams. After their win against the Eagles the Mustangs prepare to take on Newton Friday at Salina Stadium.
