The forensics team started their season far from home in Kansas City, Missouri and Oak Park high school. The competition included past National Forensics League National finalists and TOC (tournament of champions) Champions. Despite the high caliber opposition, the forensics team participated with the best.
“I was glad to be able to experience a new regions forensicating styles. It taught me that varying regions inside of our nation have varying styles. Overall, my 2nd and 4th place finishes allowed me to conclude that I’m just good everywhere,” junior, Dalton Willey confidently said.
Kansas is almost unique in that the state does not allow forensics competitors to compete before second semester, so while this was the team’s first competition, their Missouri counterparts have been competing for months.
“Going out the first time this year I was a bit nervous but after the first speech I gave it turned into excitement. I feel that I’m finally getting really serious about this (forensics) and I feel that I can actually see the work pay off and that I’m getting better,” said junior, Ken Beck
Next weekend, some of the varsity team members will be going even farther from home to Marshal, Minnesota to compete in the Schwans tournament. We can expect to see many awards won from the forensics team this year.
